Antivirus – Stay with a known, or venture into the unknown?

As usual, let's just dive in – no need for chitchat, right?

LifeChurch.tv is a long-time Norton/Symantec customer for Antivirus products.  The Symantec product line has treated us well for our desktops, servers and even our Exchange installations.  We really only have one large problem: upgrades are no fun.

Anytime, it seems, that we wish to upgrade versions, or install "updates", Symantec gets all hosed, and we have to reinstall.  Even contacting support for help leads us to random "undocumented bugs" that require reloading/reinstalling.

This month, January 2009, we are up for renewal.  Rather than just simply renew like always, we decided to look for other products that may fit the bill.  I've been testing AVG, NOD32, Sophos, Trend and of course, a little testing with Symantec.

Symantec already is a problem right now because of an issue with Vista, the Intel 3945ABG card, and Microsoft Dynamics SL – our financial package.  The combination of those three leads to massive BSOD (blue screen of death) issues.

More to come, with a few screen shots too 🙂
